The Nigerian Muslims community has thrived in greater Los Angeles area for many years. In various professions, they contribute to the economic growth and social development of the city and the state at large.
The beginning of the organization known today as ‘The Nigerian Muslim Association of Southern California’ / Islamic Center of Los Angeles can be traced to a movement that started in Los Angeles in 1995. Allah (SWT) by His design brought a group of brothers and sisters together for the sole purpose of practicing and propagating Islam in continuation of efforts that began several decades ago in the United States by Muslims of various nationalities, culture, and background. Al-Qudus Islamic Center was established on Pico Blvd. in Los Angeles. This center catered to the religious, social and community needs of Muslims and non-Muslims as well for six years. Logistic issues led to a cessation of religious and community activities at this temporary location.
In 2002, Allah (SWT) by His infinite mercy, through a group of humble servants caused the effort of Deen and service to humanity to be resuscitated under the name ‘Nigerian Muslim Association of Southern California’ NMASC. To date, religious and humanitarian activities continue daily individually and collectively. Weekly Quranic classes for youths and adults, commentary of the holy Quran and sunnah, classes and lectures on religious duties, catering to social and spiritual needs of our communities, haqeeqah, charitable and humanitarian endeavors, weddings, family counseling and bereavement support are some of the ongoing activities.
In 2010 we achieved a milestone in the vision of our community by establishing the ‘Islamic Center of Los Angeles’, ICLA at a permanent location on 9642 S. Western Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90047.
We pray that Almighty Allah SWT make our efforts means of guidance and success for us and entire humanity.
